“Via Ferrata” is a great way to experience the thrill of rock climbing without needing the specialized skills. We climb a spectacular rock face using metal handles placed in the rock (hence the name which means “iron way” in Italian) and protect ourselves from falling by attaching our climbing harnesses to a steel cable. The “Tre Signori” via ferrata near Bellinzona is a great introduction to via ferrata for sporty people who aren’t scared of heights. It’s accessed by a short gondola ride (gondola ticket included!), then a hike of about 20 minutes.
